This five story, state-of-the art research complex encompasses 55,000 square feet of modern facilities and the most advanced technology necessary for basic and clinical research. The complex, called the David Joseph Jurist Research Center for Tomorrows Children, is located on the northwest corner of the medical center’s campus, adjacent to the main entrance on Prospect Avenue. Parking is provided on the ground floor and an underground level.
The first floor houses a library, administrative offices, and a lecture hall equipped with audio-visual technology and a telecommunications system that will enable the Institute for Biomedical Research to participate in multi-site continuing education programs. A library annex of 3,500 square feet includes 10 reading cubicles, a librarian’s office, two computer stations, and an area for text and journals that are specifically required for research.
The entire second floor encompasses the Clinical Research Center, 3,000 square feet of research laboratories, and 2,090 square feet of support facilities. The laboratories are designed and equipped for research in cardiology, oncology, pulmonology, allergy and immunology, urology, and obstetrics/gynecology.
The third floor contains 3,550 square feet of general research laboratories, 4,450 square feet of core facilities, and specialized facilities for radioisotope use and infectious containment. The labs are used for research in pathology, cardiology, pulmonology, adult and pediatric hematology/oncology, and surgery. The fourth floor houses the Department of Biological Resources for the care and use of laboratory animals. A parking facility on the lower level includes a building lobby and entrance.
